Restoring Trust in Politics
Conservatives launch new and radical plans David Cameron has announced plans to help rebuild trust in politics.
Should we form the next government we will launch an initiative nationally, where any petition that collects one hundred thousand signatures will be eligible to be formally debated in the House of Commons. Any petition with a million signatures will allow members of the public to table a Bill that could end up being debated and voted on by MPs.
Conservatives want to give people more local control over housing, energy, policing and schools. We will reduce the number of quangos and make sure that every one that does exist is brought well within the democratic process. We will abolish the Human Rights Act and introduce a new Bill of Rights, so that Britain’s laws can no longer be decided by unaccountable judges.
To protect taxpayers, government spending over £25,000 will be published online as will every public sector salary over £150,000.
Royston, welcoming these plans said "We need to restore trust in democracy. Locally we can see an unelected body trying to force flouride on an unwilling population. I welcome these proposals."
