Supporting & Improving Paternity Leave

Conservatives have announced that fathers will get up to twice the amount of paid paternity leave under their plans, compared to the Government's latest idea.

The Government’s announcement on paternity leave trails behind the Conservative’s proposals on flexible parental leave announced years ago.

Conservatives believe parents need to have more flexibility in how they take their paid maternity leave.

We will:

Extend the right to request flexible working to every parent with a child
under the age of eighteen.

Introduce a new system of flexible parental leave which lets parents share maternity leave between them, including taking some of the leave simultaneously,

Ensure that the public sector becomes a world leader in flexible working.

Royston Smith says "We can’t go on ignoring the importance of strong families. We need reform of current paternity leave."
